Prince William and Princess Kate join 2021 Earthshot winners, Coral Vita, to revive a coral reef.
“Coral Vita incorporate cutting-edge methods to grow coral up to 50 times faster than nature and improve their resilience to the impact of climate change,” says Earthshot of the prize winners.
Two years into Coral Vita’s win, the Prince and Princess of Wales took part helping screw the new corals into the seabed to give the new coral a chance to regenerate.
The royal couple dove right in with their snorkelling gear to see firsthand the important work the group is doing doing at the Freeport, Bahamas coral farm.
Coral Vita posted a thank you to the royals and Thr Earthshot Prize on X: “So grateful to @KensingtonRoyal and @EarthshotPrize for helping protect the ecosystems that sustain us all, and to the global community of coral restoration practitioners who have carried this fight forward for decades, and decades more to come 🪸 💪.”
Earthshot describes its mission: “Drawing inspiration from the concept of moonshots, which since the moon landing in 1969 has become shorthand to talk about the most ambitious and ground-breaking goals, Prince William announced The Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet. We believe in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible.”
