Prime Minister Justin Trudeau doubles the carbon tax rebate in rural communities and axes the fuel tax on heating oil until March 2027.

On Thursday, Trudeau held a press conference to make the announcement: “If you live in a rural community, you don’t have the same options that people who live in cities do. We get that. So, this is more money in your pocket to recognize those realities, even as we continue to fight climate change.”

The pause on the fuel charge, in two weeks from now, will put approximately $250 back into the pockets of homeowners.

The problem is, this three-year Liberal political campaign-driven pause does nothing to help reduce the carbon footprint of these rural households at a time when climate change is happening at an alarming rate, right before our eyes.
