Canadian actress Nina Dobrev is celebrating on her milestone 35th birthday on Tuesday, Jan. 9 by fundraising for the Wild Africa Fund.
The star posted an Instagram reel with the caption: “Happy Birthday to MEEEEE 🙋🏻♀️. Thank you for all the kind messages, I feel the love and I’m sending love back 💕. My only birthday wish today is for you to support an organization that is very near and dear to me… the WILD AFRICA FUND.”
Continuing, “This organization helps our furry (and not so furry) friends living in the wild in Africa that are under threat and/or face extinction, as well as supporting the local communities in Africa and SO SO SO SO MUCH MORE. If you have the means to donate $1 for every year that I’ve been alive ($35) or if that’s too much 1 cent for every year I’ve been alive (35 cents!) every little bit helps! And if that isn’t within your means, that’s okay! Then just follow @wildafricafund and stay up to date in other ways that you can get involved! Head to my stories for the link to donate! Love you guys, thanks for supporting me and my causes!”
In response the Wild Africa Fund thanked Dobrev, writing in an Instagram post: “Happy birthday to Wild Africa Fund champion and friend Nina Dobrev 🥳. We’re honoured that this talented actress and activist has chosen to spotlight us on her special day, calling her followers to support our work. Thank you @nina for raising your dynamic voice for this movement to ensure that people and animals thrive side by side. Inspired by Nina’s example? Comment, share and follow to help us build a powerful community of care for our natural world. 🌿🌍.”
Wild Africa Fund’s YouTube channel describes it as an “African NGO located in Cape Town, with offices in Lagos and, soon, Kigali. By offering high-quality free-to-air, short films, music videos, animations, public service announcements, and documentaries for TV, radio, and social media channels, we aim to be Africa’s leading wildlife and environmental communicator.”
The organization works on conservation in Africa, in addition to “informing and driving awareness to support the protection of Africa’s natural heritage.”
